Prequel Short Stories
We at The Amaranth Chronicles, have created a beloved Sci-Fi universe. We’re looking to expand it with particular characters. That's where YOU come in!
We're accepting pitches from writers of ANY skill level, provided you have published something (blog, article, research paper, etc) that you can use as a writing example.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SHORT STORY WRITERS!
The original creators of The Amaranth Chronicles: Deviant Rising, are looking for writers of short stories. We would like to expand on the universe and five characters before the original novel. The hope is to expand on their background, showing how they became the people they are.
We are accepting pitches from writers of all types. To submit, you must include a link to your blog or another piece of short fiction.
We’re looking for writers from underrepresented communities who love Science-Fiction and expanding characters.
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH OUR UNIVERSE IS NECESSARY.
Examples of other prequel stories are available on the Short Stories page. We’re looking to carry on the story from there, trying to expand this universe into other media.
The Back Story
Centuries ago, human beings from Terra-Luna (Earth) expanded their reach, colonizing planets and moons within our solar system and beyond. Nearly two hundred years prior to the event known as Deviant Rising, a colossal colony vessel, “The Crown of Thorns,” set off for the Epsilon Eridani Star system. Unexpectedly, they awoke from cryosleep orbiting an enigmatic star, with no familiar constellations, planets, or even a glimpse of the Sol system in sight.
The Crown of Thorns’ crew, under the leadership of Captain Daniel Archer, decided to split into thirds: two groups settled on M-class planets in the new star system, while the remainder stayed aboard the vessel.
In time, their scientists unraveled the mystery of their displacement: the star, unlike any other, emitted a unique energy that had formed a temporary wormhole, transporting The Crown of Thorns to this uncharted location. This star, in essence, was a gateway connecting two distant parts of the galaxy.
Captain Archer, opting to shield others from potential hazards, ventured through the wormhole alone. His brave exploration led to contact with The United Planets of Earth (U.P.E.) back in the Sol system. The U.P.E. sent expeditions to follow his path, but by their arrival, Captain Archer had passed away. His legacy bridged two distinct realms: the Sol side, under the governance of the U.P.E., and the opposite side, known as ‘The Frontier.’
The Frontier, reminiscent of the adventurous spirit of the show “Firefly,” blossomed into a diverse hub of unique cultures and untamed frontiers. In contrast, the Sol side, echoing the themes from the game “Deus Ex,” continued its sophisticated and technologically advanced civilization. Both sides, however, unanimously revered the colossal ship orbiting the star – now named ‘Archer’s Agony’ in honor of the late captain. This ship, a symbol of courage and exploration, served as the primary gateway station for all journeying towards this new, mysterious expanse.

We are looking for stories between 10,000 and 30,000 words. If your pitch idea is accepted, you will then sign an NDA and standard work-for-hire contract.
